Wellington Point State School has one administration block, ten teaching blocks, a multipurpose hall, extensive resource centre, historical museum and bunkhouse, a multi-purpose teaching block, a kitchen, several playgrounds, three amenities blocks, extensive grounds covering more than six hectares and large shady areas.
Library
All children are encouraged to borrow reading materials from the library. Books borrowed are to be cared for and returned in good condition so that others may also benefit from the borrowing of those books.
Children may select books after 8.15am on the designated day for their year level, during the second lunch break and sometimes during class time. Parents/carers are to ensure that their children read each day. Parents/carers will be sent an account for any lost or non-returned books. Average cost of books - $15.00.
Prep Year and Year 1 children may borrow one book at a time for a period of up to 2 weeks. Children must have a library bag with their name on it.
Year 2 and 3 children may borrow one book at a time for a period of up to two weeks. Children must have a library bag with their name on it.
Years 4, 5, 6 and 7 children may borrow three books for a period of up to 2 weeks. They may borrow some reference materials, vertical file and audio visual (AV) material but must check with the teacher-librarian first.
Books are returned to the 'Returns Box' in the library. If a book is damaged it must be returned to the teacher-librarian.
Parents are also encouraged to borrow from the library’s 'Parent Section'. It contains helpful information on children’s growth and development.
Perry Bunkhouse and Museum
In 1991, the school community gradually become involved in collecting materials for a school museum. These materials are housed at the school and in this manner the collection will be available to the community as long as the school exists. Mr Harold Perry was the driving force behind the development of the museum and its extension to create the 'Bunkhouse'.
The materials housed in the museum are available for class lessons and any community person or group may make arrangements to visit this facility.
The 'Bunkhouse' and associated areas are not to be used as general play areas. However, children are encouraged to use the area for relaxation and sit and chat type activities during the lunch breaks. Climbing on benches, tables or the woodheap is not permitted. Students are to treat the area with respect so that future generations of children will have the benefit of this resource.
Students are encouraged to participate in all aspects of school life and this includes:
caring for local fauna and flora
participating in gardening and other projects
correct usage of all school equipment, maintenance and storage of same.
